Tumblr, I would like to talk about contemporary art.

As an artist dedicated to my work, I must thank Tumblr for providing me with a platform that allows artists and art enthusiasts easy access to a broad range of a variety of beautiful art work; pieces that you probably won’t find at the Smithsonian, MoMA, Guggenheim, or any venue showcasing contemporary art.

However, this doesn’t mean the art is of any less quality. In fact, 21st century art is quite rich in symbolism with just a dash of cultural spice! It evokes emotion that could drive even Vincent van Gogh to insanity. Take the above picture as an example. Cosmic Litter Box, a thought-provoking piece by Samuel Mitchelson continues to amaze audiences around the world. Contemporary art has been under constant fire due to it’s subjective nature with artistic merit. It’s said that contemporary art is a hit-or-miss with most viewers, but I, much like thousands of others, understood it when my eyes first fell upon the beauty that is Cosmic Litter Box. Whether the meaning becomes lost in translation, one can still admire the quality and the surrealistic effects of Cosmic Litter Box.
